Nissan
1985-1988 Nissan Sentra or Pulsar - Starter Differences
Nissan Sentras and Pulsars built between 1985 and 1988 (Bosch p/n SR243X) came equipped with both Mitsubishi and Hitachi starters as original equipment. These two units do not look alike as the Mitsubishi version has a tapered die-cast starter drive housing where approximately half of the pinion gear is visible. This Mitsubishi unit has a 21-tooth pinion gear. The Hitachi version has a starter drive housing which is flat on the end and is covered by a steel plate with three attaching screws. The Hitachi unit has a 24-tooth pinion gear. While they don't look the same, both units are original equipment for these vehicles and are totally interchangeable.
