1989-90 Nissan Maxima - Discharged Battery
1989-1990 Nissan Maximas (Bosch p/n AL338X) can really make you lose your cool when attempting to determine the cause of a repeatedly discharged battery. Before you throw a wrench at the battery or the alternator, check the wiring harness to the cylinder head temperature sensor. A really quick way of hunting this condition down is to check for a trouble code DTC 13. If the wires connecting to this sensor are damaged, they may be causing the radiator and a/c cooling fans to run continuously. Upon inspecting the wires at the rear of the sensor, look for any chaffed or damaged wires. These wires need to be repaired and the wiring harness rerouted. To ensure that this condition does not reoccur, it is necessary that you maintain a 22 mm clearance between the end of the cylinder head temperature sensor and the main EFI wiring harness.
