1992-1993 Sonata - Run Down Battery

The next time you encounter a 1992-93 Hyundai Sonata which has a continually run down battery, check out the radiator and/or condenser cooling fans before you condemn the alternator! (Bosch Reman. p/n AL4010X, AL4008X) There is an in-line diode in the engine wiring harness that corrodes and can become conductive and, in turn, cause the cooling fan or condenser fan to keep on running and running even with the key off. To compound things, it can be difficult to diagnose as the corroded diode can be "disrupted" during diagnosis thus temporarily returning the fans to a normal operating condition. The in-line diode "A" is located behind the battery in the engine wiring harness. If it needs replacement, look for diode part number 91798-33000.
