Honda Vehicles - No Start/Discharged battery

1986-89 Honda Accord, Prelude, Civic, Acura Integra

Symptoms: The battery is continually discharged leading to a "No Start" condition.

Probable Cause: This condition can be traced to frequent short trip driving with the rear defogger left in the "On" position, along with high under hood temperatures. This combination creates excess strain on the battery and leads to the no start condition.

Corrective Action: To cure this condition Honda has released a defogger switch/timer (Part # 35500-SEO-A11) which automatically shuts off after 25 minutes, and a heat shield (Part # 06377-SE3-A00) which helps deflect some of the engine's heat away from the battery. Components for Acura vehicles are sold only as a complete kit under the following part numbers:

1986-87 06377-SD2-A011
1988-89 06377-SD2-A11
