Geo Exhaust Valves - 1989-95 Geo

A restriction in the exhaust system may cause burned exhaust valves on 1.0 liter Geo Metro engines.  After repairing a cylinder head with a burned exhaust valve, perform an exhaust system backpressure check.  This test should be performed at 2500 rpm, at normal operating temperature.  A value of 2.8 psi or higher indicates a restricted exhaust.

An exhaust restriction may be due to a collapsed exhaust header pipe, a center pipe failure, internal muffler failure, a damaged tailpipe, or a plugged catalytic converter.
