Electrical System
Early VW, Porsche, Saab - No Start
Many early model Volkswagen, Porsche, and Saab vehicles (p/n SR15X, SR17X, SR68X, and SR78X) suffer from a condition where the starter motor cranks slowly or not at all.
On these vehicles a minimum of 7 volts is required to activate the starter solenoid.
If the vehicles starting and charging system has been inspected for proper battery voltage, cable connections/conditions, and placement of starter heat shields, and this problem still persists it may be necessary to install a starter relay kit, in order to ensure that the proper voltage gets to the starter.
Bosch now offers a complete relay kit (p/n WR1) which consists of 1 wiring harness, 1 relay, 1 fuse (15 AMP), and a complete set of installation instructions.
