'93-94 Dodge Ram Trucks, Cherokees, Grand Wagoneers - Run Down Battery

1993-1994 Dodge Ram trucks, Cherokees, and Grand Wagoneers equipped with a factory Mopar trailer tow package are prone to a run down battery condition. (Bosch p/n AL6509X, AL6510X) This situation stems from water getting trapped in the vehicle's trailer tow harness connector. Trapped moisture causes the terminals in the connector to corrode, which in turn causes interior and exterior lights to come on regardless of switch position.

To remedy this situation, the original trailer tow harness must be removed and a new one installed. Part numbers are 56017622 for the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, 56018483 for the Cherokee, and 56016893 for Ram Trucks. Prior to installation a 1/2" wide by 1/8" deep notch must be filed in the connector housing to permit water to drain out in the future.
