'97 Neon - Faulty Radiator Cooling Fan

If your '97 Neon is repeatedly discharging its battery or you have to replace the alternator (p/n AL6519X), check the radiator cooling fan first. Chrysler suggests that the fan relay may need to be replaced with a revised relay (p/n04707286) and corresponding jumper wire with a built in diode (p/n 05293157AA)

To check if the relay and fan are working properly, the fan needs to be actuated with a DRBIII (Diagnostic Readout Box or Chrysler scan tool). If the fan does not come on, or runs continuously, the relay needs to be replaced. To perform the repair, the left side fan motor connector needs to be disconnected. Next the jumper wire assembly needs to be installed between the radiator fan and the headlamp and dash harness. After installing the two way jumper connector between the fan and dash harness, the female jumper connector is connected to the original fan motor connector. To complete the repair, the original fan relay is removed and the revised fan relay (p/n 04707286) is installed.
